L1BRE was a technology platform in Mexico City aimed at empowering traditional taxis in the digital era. It equipped taxis with digital meters, navigation, and a passenger app for hailing, tracking, and paying for rides.
Mexico City's taxi fleet of over 150,000 taxis was in need of modernization. The Mexican government tasked L1BRE with implementing new technology, which included an app and driver- and customer-facing hardware developed by Ingram Micro. The app connected to the new digital taximeters, and the technology provided access to high-quality mapping, real-time traffic information, advanced routing, customer payment options, and accurate ETAs
To address these challenges, we partnered with L1BRE to develop driver- and customer-facing tablets, along with in-car holders designed for seamless integration with the app.
We carefully analyzed their requirements and identified hardware solutions within our portfolio that offered an optimal balance of performance and cost-effectiveness. We shortlisted products that best met these criteria and sent them to L1BRE for testing. Once the tablets were selected we tested and refined the in-car clamps which would secure the tablets.
I oversaw the production and shipment of 20,000 units at a time, carefully managing resources amidst five other concurrent projects. To overcome the challenge of shipping units without pre-installed software, I coordinated with our Mexican warehouse to install the necessary apps on each batch before distribution.
Successfully contributed to the modernization of Mexico City's taxi fleet, impacting over 150,000 taxis and countless passengers.
